Best Season for Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

If you plan to go for the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek, you must be aware of which season you choose. Let us tell you that choosing the right season for this trek can make a whole lot of difference in the entire trekking journey.
Spring season (March to May) and Autumn Season (September to November) stand as the best seasons to go for the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek. During these seasons, the weather remains perfect for trekking in the Himalayan region. Moreover, you can also expect clear skies, pleasant weather, and adequate temperatures, all perfect for exploring the mountains.

Besides, the trekkers can also experience walking through the rhododendron, oak, and lush green forest. Another outstanding aspect of trekking in the spring and autumn seasons is that there are fewer leeches and mosquito infestations. Last but not least, during these seasons, the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trekking route also offers exceptionally outstanding views of several mountains, including Langtang Lirung, Ganesh, Himalchuli, and Dorje Lakpa.

    Other seasons (Summer and Winter)

Trekking the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake map is not considered ideal during summer (June to August) and winter (December to February). Why? During the summer season, the trek becomes challenging due to monsoon rains, scorching sunlight, and even the trails can be muddy and slippery. On the other hand, trekking in winter means walking throughout the trek in negative temperatures. Moreover, many areas might also be affected by heavy snowfall, and even the tea houses and lodges might remain closed during these seasons.

Therefore, we recommend the trekkers to choose either the autumn or spring seasons for the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek. However, if you want some extra thrill and adventure, the Himlayan Ice Cap team sits ready to serve you with this outstanding trekking experience even in the off-season.

Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek Difficulty Level

Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek sits as a comparatively difficult trekking route, especially due to the altitude gain it takes us through. The trekkers can expect well-trodden paths with long ascents and descents, stone steps, and occasional rocky or uneven sections in between. Furthermore, the altitude that we reach is almost 500 meters above sea level. Matter of fact, many trekkers go through altitude sickness difficulties at such high altitudes.

However, proper planning and preparation can make this or any trek much easier and convenient. Therefore, we recommend that all trekkers take preparation and planning seriously. Besides, knowing a little about the culture, lifestyle, and the overall topography can also help you have an adventurous and insightful trek to Langtang and Gosaikunda Lake.

    Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Preparation

Going for a challenging trek like the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek requires proper planning and preparation. Without proper preparation, trekkers can get into several problems and difficulties. To ensure a safe and exciting trek to the Lagtang Gosaikunda trail, we recommend you prepare in the following ways:
    • Go for physical training, including cardio and strength.
    • Do a few day-hikes with a weighted pack to get used to 5–7 hrs of walking on varied terrain.
    • If you’ve never trekked above 3,500m, pace yourself, stay hydrated, and allow your body to adjust slowly.
    • Make sure to arrange all the necessary permits before heading for the trek.
    • As professional trekking guides, we recommend that the participants drink 3 to 4 litres of water daily. It's important to keep yourself hydrated throughout.
    • Also, prepare yourself for long days of walking, changing weather, and basic teahouse accommodation.
    • Most importantly, remember to go slow and steady rather than keeping a high pace while on the trek.

    Food and Accommodation

Food and accommodation stand as two of the most important requirements during such tiring and adventurous trekking journeys, like the Gosaikunda Lake Langtang Valley Trek. With that in mind, the Himalayan Ice Cap team ensures to arrange the best food and accommodation for the trekkers throughout the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek.

    Food

Throughout the trek, you can expect fresh, hygienic, and healthy food. All the hotels and lodges that we arrange give their best to provide the trekkers with the most fulfilling and satisfying food. Moreover, our team also makes special arrangements based on your food habits. So, if you have any allergies to any food, please let us know beforehand.

Talking about the menu, the hotels and lodges provide Dal Bhat, a generous plate of rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickles, which also comes with unlimited refills. Other than that, you can also find noodles, momos (dumplings), fried rice, soups, pancakes, and Tibetan bread. In Kyanjin Gompa, yak cheese and fresh yoghurt are local specialties not to be missed.

Furthermore, the lodges, hotels, and tea houses also serve drinks like ginger tea, milk tea, lemon honey tea, and coffee. However, the hotels and lodges have limited menu items as we ascend higher on the trail. Therefore, we recommend the trekkers to be prepared for that.

    Accommodation

Just like the food, the Himalayan Ice Cap team also ensures to arrange the best hotels and tea houses for accommodation. However, we recommend the trekkers to prepare themselves for basic accommodation (not like the ones that we get in the city). We spend the nights in traditional teahouses, the majority of which are run by local families. Besides, you can expect simple rooms with twin beds, foam mattresses, blankets, and pillows.

As we ascend higher on the trail, the tea houses start getting more basic with limited facilities. Nevertheless, our team makes sure that the trekkers get cozy and comfortable throughout the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trekking journey.

This short trip starts giving you the perfect vibes of Kathmandu's vibrant culture and tradition. In the hotel, you will once again be welcomed with a refreshing welcome drink.

After that, you can check into your room, get freshened up, and then go for a quick stroll through the nearby alleyways and marketplaces. Also, we recommend that you visit cafes, hotels, and pubs before returning to the hotel for a delicious welcome dinner.
Without any delay, we will begin the journey towards the trekking region on the second day. After having your breakfast, our local representatives will drive you from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, which takes about 7 to 8 hours and takes us to an altitude of 1460 meters.

The drive takes us through some amazing landscapes, across several rivers, waterfalls, smaller settlements, and different towns. As we approach the latter section of the drive, we also get some glimpses of different snow-covered peaks, including Annapurna I, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, etc. After reaching Syabrubesi, our guides will take you to the hotel for rest and refreshment. Take your time to stroll around the village in the evening and interact with the locals. Overnight stay, and dinner will be arranged in Syabrubesi for the night.
On the third day, we officially begin walking on the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trekking trail. Today's ascent takes us all the way from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel, a famous hotel located at an altitude of 2480 meters. Today's trek begins on a trail that goes just beside the Bhote Koshi river, which takes us to the first checkpoint, Guru Rinpoche Gomba.

From there, we ascend through a stone-paved trail that slowly and gradually takes us to Bamboo, another significant village on this trail. As we have lunch and a quick rest in Bamboo, our walk continues towards Lama Hotel. Lama Hotel is a beautiful settlement with subtropical oak, maple, fir, and rhododendron throughout. Take your time to explore the settlement before having your dinner and spending the night.
Another day calls for another exciting walk in the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trekking map. After a delicious breakfast, we leave Lama Hotel and walk towards Langtang village, a settlement at 3430 meters above sea level. As we leave Lama Hotel, the trail slowly and gradually opens into sweeping highland meadows. With gradual ascent, we experience the air getting lighter and fresher.

Within the next 6 to 7 hours of walking, crossing multiple villages, and interacting with several locals, we finally reach Langtang village. This village welcomes us with a quiet, mountain warmth. Besides, you can also find timber houses where the locals welcome you with a smile and cheers. Himalayan Ice Cap will arrange dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel at Langtang before ascending further.
On the fifth day, we leave Langtang village immediately after breakfast and make our way towards Kyanjin Gompa. This section of the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trekking trail feels completely like walking into a land of dreams. Imagine walking past yak pastures, wildflower patches, and streams that chatter endlessly. Amazing even to read, isn't it? Moreover, this section of the trail also helps us delve deep into the religious aspect of the Langtang region.

It takes about 3 to 4 hours for us to reach Kyangjin Ri, an ancient monastery at an altitude of 3870 meters above sea level. Sitting quietly against the backdrop of Langtang Lirung, this entire village hums with a gentle spiritual energy, where time moves more slowly, and the sky seems impossibly blue.
Now that we have already ascended above 3500 meters, it's time to take an acclimatization break. However, this does not mean that we will sit idly in the hotel. Instead, the guides will take you for a quick hike to Tserko Ri, the highest point of the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek.

Let us tell you that you will be in for a challenging climb on this day. However, each pause on the walk offers us panoramic views of snow-covered peaks, valleys, and clouds, making the entire environment heavenly. After spending some time on Tserko Ri, we return to Kyangjin Ri for another night's stay. However, before that, we recommend that you explore the village and interact with the locals as well.
After these many days of ascents, we will go for a quick descent on the seventh day. Today's walk leads us back to Lama Hotel before we climb onwards to Gosaikunda Lake. It takes us about 6 to 7 hours for us to reach today's destination. Besides, this section of the walk also offers a faint scent of juniper & pine as we walk beside the Langtang river.

Once again, we reach Lama Hotel, a great place to rest before taking a good ascent towards the Gosaikunda Lake. Take your time to explore around the area and interact with the locals before having dinner and an overnight stay.
One major highlight, reached! Now, it's time for us to conquer another top-notch destination of the Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trekking map. On that verge, we make our way from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru, the second last settlement before reaching Gosaikunda Lake. This spot, located at an altitude of 2220 meters, sits on a ridge and consists of houses layered like steps into the hillside. Furthermore, you can also expect a walk through rhododendron forests, where sunlight drips through leaves like liquid gold.

Within about 6 to 7 years of walking through such an amazing trail, we will finally reach Thulo Syabru, a place to have dinner and spend a night before ascending further.
After having breakfast and freshening up, the guides from Himalayan Ice Cap lead you on another lovely section of the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek. Today, we go for a breath-taking, high-altitude walk to Chandanbari, a settlement at 3340 meters above sea level.

Starting with a gradual ascent, the trail slowly climbs through dense pine and rhododendron forest as we leave Thulo Syabru. As we gain altitude, the air starts getting thinner, and you might also face difficulties due to altitude sickness. So while you enjoy the journey, remember to take care of yourself as well.
On the tenth day, we finally reach the most-awaited destination of the Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trek. Yes, it takes about 4 to 5 hours for us to ascend to Gosaikunda Lake as we leave Chandanbari. Today, the trail climbs steadily into rocky, alpine terrain with minimal vegetation. As we reach the higher altitude, we can see small turquoise lakes hinting at what lies ahead.

In a while, we finally reach Gosaikunda Lake, a place of deep spiritual significance, sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. Besides, the cold and icy blue waters sit perfectly still, reflecting the surrounding snow peaks. This is where you can sit calmly and have the peace that you look for before having dinner and spending the night in a tent prepared by Sherpa guides.
From day 11, we begin our journey back in the Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trek. Today's descent begins in the open alpine before returning to lush greenery. Slowly and gradually, we can experience the trail passing through some ridges, forests, and small settlements. Besides, as we lose some altitude, we also start experiencing the temperature significantly getting warmer and the environment offering more greenery.

Within about 6 to 7 hours, we will find ourselves in Dhunche, a village located at an altitude of 1970 meters above sea level. Besides, this is also the place where you can experience the Langtang trekking region for one last time before ending the journey.
As you wake up and have your breakfast, our local representatives will pick you up and take you on a long drive. This 5 to 6-hour-long drive takes us back to Kathmandu, the place from where we started the journey. After reaching Kathmandu, you can check into the hotel room before exploring the city for one more time.

In the evening, we invite you to a lovely farewell dinner, where our team will also provide you with certificates for successful completion of the trekking package.
Today is the day when we officially put an end to the 13 Day Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek. However, the breakfast will be served in the hotel itself. After that, you will have enough time to do the final packing before our guides drive you to the airport and bid you a final farewell.

Nevertheless, if you have a different plan, like going for another trek or staying back in Nepal for another adventure, Himalayan Ice Cap can arrange that for you.
